The city of Benin, and in fact the entire Edo State was agog and filled with excitement as the man of the people and first-rate businessman, Sir (Chief) Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion marked his 87th birthday with prayers and thanksgiving.
In his characteristic manner, the occasion began with a series of cultural performances and visitation by different groups. The real celebration got into full swing on September 11, 2021 with the Annual Morning Dew Service, which unfolded as an interdenominational devotional service where Christian Ministers took turn to shower the octogenarian with prayers.
The event which unfolded at the God’s Historic Chapel, located within the expansive home of the inimitable philanthropist was well attended by royal fathers from across Nigeria and leading lights of the state. In their separate messages, Rev Felix Omobude, Rev. (Dr.) Olu Abinuomo, Rev. B. O. Ekhator, Bishop M. A. Okpebholo, Rev. (Fr.) Alfred Agbonlahor, eulogised the celebrant, and prayed for more years in good health.
The following day, a Thanksgiving Mass was held at St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church to offer praises onto the Lord for the life of the Esama who has touched many lives with his wealth as an employer of labour.
