Actress Tessa Thompson is tackling “Hedda Gabler,” one of the best-known works by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.
This new adaptation of Ibsen’s play about a dysfunctional relationship stars Tessa Thompson as the manipulative Hedda, a woman in an entangled relationship between two men.
Ibsen’s classic play is one of the most staged plays worldwide. The protagonist Hedda Gabler, a neurotic, controlling, strong-willed woman has been recognized by critics as one of the most controversial and dramatic characters in the history of fiction.
The list of actresses who have portrayed Hedda include Ingrid Bergman, Diana Rigg, Glenda Jackson and Annette Bening.
Thompson’s movie credits include “Westworld,” “Creed,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” the Ava DuVernay directed film “Selma,” Tyler Perry’s film “For Colored Girls” and “Sylvie’s Love” alongside Nnamdi Asomugha.
Writer/director Nia DaCosta is helming the film which also stars British actor Nicholas Pinnock.
