In the upcoming drama “Shadow Force,” Kerry Washington joins forces with Omar Sy as they play lovers and assassins forced into hiding.
“It’s a film that celebrates love and the power of parenting and courage. It’s a big splashy, badass action adventure, but at its heart, it’s about fighting to protect the things that mean the most to you like family,” says Washington who also produces the thriller.
In the movie, she plays a highly trained assassin who breaks the rules and falls in love with a fellow mercenary played by Sy and is forced to go on the run to protect their child who is played by Jahleel Kamara.
“It’s really about two parents fighting to protect their child from Shadow Force, which is a unit they used to be part of,” she explains. “I have wanted to do an action film for a long time, but I haven’t had the opportunity and when you are a producer you get to create your own projects,” adds the Bronx native who made her debut in 2000 in the independent drama “Our Song” and later in the film “Save The Last Dance.”
Directed by Joe Carnahan (“Smokin’ Aces”), “Shadow Force” also stars Mark Strong, Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.
“Every mom has a little bit of badass in her and it’s a great movie to be opening on Mother’s Day as it’s a celebration of parenting.”
