Working with Tyler Perry Has Been a Great Experience – Taraji P. Henson

She’s the star of Tyler Perry’s latest sequel about marital strife and for Taraji P. Henson, it was an honor to join the cast of “Why Did I Get Married Again?”
For the actress who previously worked with Perry on “The Family That Preys,” “I Can Do Bad All by Myself” and “Acrimony,” being part of the movie was like working with friends.
“I knew everyone and it was like going to work with my friends and they were so receptive to having me. It was a beautiful experience,” says the actress who plays the mother of the groom and joins returning cast members that include Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Lamman Rucker,  Sharon Leal and Tasha Smith.

Written, directed and co-starring Tyler Perry ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ follows several couples who reunite for a destination wedding and the film, much like its predecessors, “Why Did I Get Married” released in 2007 and 2010’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” captures the complex, messy realities of love fading, communication breaking down and relationships falling apart.

“I was a little nervous at first as I know how endearing this cast and this story is to the audience, but I was honored to be asked to join and they were so receptive to having me and made me feel like I was in the first installment,” shares the actress who received a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination in 2009 for “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.”
Henson has enjoyed a successful film career for over two decades, and her first role of prominence was in the 2001 comedy-drama “Baby Boy” alongside Tyrese Gibson. She went on to star in “Hustle & Flow” opposite Terrence Howard.

A Screen Actors Guild Award recipient for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for “Hidden Figures,” her many film credits include “What Men Want,” “The Karate Kid,” “Proud Mary,” and “Smokin Aces.”

For the Emmy award nominee who has been extremely vocal about pay disparities in the film industry, returning to work with Perry has been a great experience.

“I really love him and how he treats me, especially given the things you hear me complaining about. He gives me love and he sees me. He sees the work that I put in and how passionate I am and he rewards me for that in a professional way with the zeros on my check.”

“Why Did I Get Married Again?” is currently streaming on Netflix.
